What is Required to Purchase "Professional Use Only" Items?
Professional Use Only (1.4G Pro) items require specialized training, specialized firing systems, and specific electronic setup protocols (beyond standard consumer fireworks UN0336 1.4G) to operate safely. 4G’s Pyrotechnics requires documented proof of training or industry competency, alongside a signed liability waiver, before account privileges can be granted.
All buyers should obtain, be familiar with, and operate under the guidelines of:
-
NFPA 1123: Code for Fireworks Display
-
NFPA 1126: Standard for the Use of Pyrotechnics Before a Proximate Audience
Regulatory Overviews
-
USDOT Regulations: All 1.4G Pro Line Professional Use Only items are classified as Articles Pyrotechnic UN0431 (1.4G) or UN0432 (1.4S) by the U.S. Department of Transportation (49 CFR 172.101). Standard commerce transportation regulations apply. Hazmat placarding is required and made available at pickup when transporting more than 1,000 lbs gross weight of 1.4G items.
-
ATF Regulations: The importation, storage, and distribution of Articles Pyrotechnic (UN0431 & UN0432) are generally exempt from federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) explosives licenses and regulations. You do not legally require an ATF Federal Explosives License (FEL) to purchase 1.4G Pro items; however, 4G’s Pyrotechnics gladly accepts an ATF license as valid proof of competency.
-
State & Local Compliance: State and local laws or regulations heavily dictate the storage, permitting, and execution of these displays. It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to be fully aware of and adhere to the regulations of their destination state and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
-
Iowa Local Compliance: Iowa residents must comply with all local municipality and state fire marshal permit guidelines regarding commercial or public pyrotechnic displays. Out-of-state buyers must fulfill their local jurisdiction's standard operational filing criteria.
